Marvel – New ‘Behind the Mask’ Documentary Coming to Disney+ on February 12th!

Marvel's Behind the Mask Logo

A new Marvel Comics documentary is coming to Disney+! On February 12th, Marvel is releasing a documentary series, Behind the Mask, which seems to be focused on exploring the secret identities of some of Marvel’s most popular characters.

The series will include Marvel writers and artists discussing characters like Black Panther, Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain Marvel.

Although the information distributed doesn’t explicitly talk about diversity, it’s notable that the characters specifically mentioned are mostly diverse characters. Especially given that the series focus is about identity, it makes sense to focus on characters whose identities have impacted society.

We all need more content so this is a great addition to the Disney+ library!

‘MARVEL’S BEHIND THE MASK’ DOCUMENTARY COMING TO DISNEY+

New Marvel documentary special to premiere February 12, exclusively on Disney+

New York, NY – January 19, 2021 – Today, Marvel Entertainment announced a brand-new documentary special, Marvel’s Behind the Mask, will debut February 12 exclusively on Disney+! Marvel’s Behind the Mask will explore the power of identity behind the world’s most iconic super heroes we know and love today.

From the very inception of comic books, secret identities have been an integral part of both super heroes and villains leading “normal” lives. But it’s the characters beneath that resonate within us across generations of fans. Since the advent of the Marvel Age of Comics in the early 1960s, Marvel’s writers and artists have used the notion of identities to examine the evolving concept of equal rights. These legendary Marvel creations and stories have not only reflected the world outside our window – they have become a reflection of our own identities and who we truly are.

Marvel’s Behind the Mask will feature guests from across Marvel’s 80-year legacy, including the writers and artists behind the rise of characters like Black Panther, Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain Marvel, and many other characters in the Marvel Universe, highlighting Marvel’s impact on pop culture and media.

Marvel’s Behind the Mask is produced by Marvel New Media with Tarmac Creative. The film is directed by Michael Jacobs and produced by Chris Gary and Ryan Simon for Tarmac Creative and Strike Anywhere. Joe Quesada, Shane Rahmani, Stephen Wacker, John Cerilli, Harry Go, and Sarah Amos serve as Executive Producers for Marvel.
