Percy Daggs IV joins the world of Panem as Ampert Latier, the son of Beetee (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. In an interview with POC Culture, the young actor discussed the powerful messages behind his recent projects, including Never Let Go, Paradise, and now The Hunger Games. Reflecting on what draws him to emotionally challenging stories, Daggs emphasized the importance of family, human connection, and resilience. Speaking about The Hunger Games, he shared, “As long as we fight together and we fight as hard as possible and never give up, we can persevere through all of our challenges.”
Daggs also reflected on the close relationships that developed among the young cast while filming in Germany and Spain. He described the experience as building “a home away from home around set,” with the actors spending time together outside of filming, playing games, and forming friendships that helped strengthen their performances. He also praised Kelvin Harrison Jr. for capturing the essence of Jeffrey Wright’s portrayal of Beetee and discussed how they developed the important father-son relationship at the heart of Ampert’s story.

Beyond his on-screen relationships, Daggs spoke warmly about his real-life father, actor Percy Daggs III, and the encouragement he has received throughout his career. Rather than steering him toward particular roles, his father has supported his creative interests and given him the freedom to pursue projects that resonate with him.
“He’s always made sure that he’s giving me all of the tools possible to make sure that I prevail in whatever area I’m in. I love my dad,” Daggs IV said. “He’s there for me no matter what, and supports me through all things, no matter what decision I make.”

About The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping:
From acclaimed director Francis Lawrence, THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) from District 12, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, the biggest Games yet with twice as many tributes.
Set in the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, the story follows Haymitch into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes). As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena — setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING also stars Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Francis Lawrence. Screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie.
