Victoria Monét to Release Original Song for ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘The Acolyte’

Latest from Lucasfilm, The Acolyte is the biggest series premiere of the year on Disney+. The two-episode premiere on June 4th brought Star Wars fans to the High Republic Era and garnered 11.1 million views globally within its first five days on the platform, per the Walt Disney Company.

As mentioned in our review for the series, The Acolyte features a wonderful and diverse cast of talent. Adding to the already stacked list of talent involved in the show, Disney+ announced today that three time Grammy® Award-winning singer-songwriter Victoria Monét will release an original end-credits song for a future episode of the series. Her song, “Power of Two” releases tomorrow, June 14th, on all streaming platforms. Monét created the song alongside Grammy® Award-winning producer D’Mile, and award-winning composer Michael Abels.

“Having my song be a part of the classic Star Wars franchise via The Acolyte is such an honor and I’m thrilled for everyone to hear it when they see how it ties into the overall storyline! D’Mile and I had a great time making the song and hope the world loves it as much as we do,” Monét said in a press release.

The artwork for the song features Mae and Osha, with a purple light down the middle. Since it is called “Power of Two,” it will be very exciting to see how the lyrics reflect the duality of their characters. The song is 3:17 in length according to the Youtube listing, and we can’t wait to listen.

This is personally very exciting to me to see another queer artist involved in this series, which began its run on Disney+ during Pride month. Monét opened up recently in an interview with Variety earlier this year about her bisexuality.

“Just do and love who you love. And so if I have the ability to talk about it without so much backlash… I know there are special people who hate it. But I feel like since I have the privilege to do so, I should and just be honest. So music has been a playground for sexuality. And some things I don’t even express in words will just come out in music because it’s on my spirit and soul to do so,” Monét said to Variety.

Monét has been open about her sexuality in her music, and it is so inspiring to see her creating an official song for Star Wars. All of the other Star Wars shows have had orchestral arrangements in the end credits, so it is also especially exciting to see what they created when the song releases tomorrow.

New episodes of The Acolyte releases Tuesdays on Disney+.
