Sony Pictures released the latest Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer today to celebrate the start of advance ticket sales. Just about six weeks away from the highly anticipated film’s release, the new trailer provides new insight into what Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is going through, offers some intriguing teases that will inspire countless fan theories and reveals a mysterious new villain.
The Trailer Explains Hulk’s Role in the Story
The first part of the new trailer makes it clear why the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is in this film. Besides the fact that the Hulk continues to be one of the most popular superhero characters in the world, he’s a particularly good fit for this storyline where Peter is dealing with a mutation that is causing him to lose control. Early in the trailer, we see Spidey battle one of the new villains, the Scorpion (Michael Mando), and throw him around with a savageness that isn’t typical for Peter.
A New Clue May Point Toward Marvel’s Mutant Future
Later on we learn that Peter’s best friends, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are in their last semester at MIT, putting a more clear timeline on where this film takes place. Ned also maintains a Spider-Man bulletin board, where he’s trying to figure out Spidey’s alter ego. The trailer gives an intentional close-up of a newspaper clipping naming a “Carlos Rodriguez” as a potential candidate. In the comics, Carlos Rodriguez is a little known mutant character who is part of a group called the “Y-Men.” The mutant connection should raise the eyebrows of many fans who have been theorizing a connection to a certain group of mutants.
The Trailer Introduces a Mysterious New Villain
Finally, and potentially most interesting, the trailer introduces us to a new villain, who is invisible and seemingly has the power to control people. While we have seen glimpses of characters like the Scorpion, Boomerang and the Hand, this is the first we see if this mysterious new villain.
In addition to the trailer, Sony also released a fun new site, Spider Tracker, a retro inspired site where you can channel your best Ned and try to find where Spider-Man will show up next.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases July 31, 2026 and advance tickets are on sale now.
