Not only is Spider-Man: Brand New Day the latest film in the Spider-Man franchise and a fresh new beginning for everyone’s favorite web head, but it also marks the first time that a Spider-Man feature film is directed by an Asian American filmmaker with Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm.
To celebrate the momentous occasion, Gold House, the industry leading organization that highlights AAPI achievement in entertainment, teamed with Open Table to organize a “Family Dinner” for Cretton and the Brand New Day team. In attendance were members of the Spidey cast and crew, including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tramell Tillman, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, as well as luminaries like Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh.
A Milestone for Asian American Representation
It’s always wonderful to see the community come together and celebrate moments like this, and it serves as an important reminder that this is truly another groundbreaking moment for diversity in film and pop culture. Cretton first teamed with Marvel Studios with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021 and more recently added the critically acclaimed series Wonder Man to his superhero resume. Now, he’s directing arguably the biggest superhero on the planet.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases July 31, 2026 in theaters. Check out images from the Family Dinner below.
