We’re just over one month away from the true beginning of the new DC Universe of films with James Gunn’s Superman. Over the last two days, Warner Bros. Pictures released a slew of character posters, officially revealing the roster of metahumans and villains in the film. It’s a considerable list, with 11 character posters in all, including the likes of Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific on the heroes side, and Lex Luthor and the Engineer on the villainous side.
The posters are all styled in the Superman colors and light, glowing background. First up, there are six character posters for Superman and his allies: Superman, Krypto, Superman Robot #4 (who is apparently not Kelex?), Guy Gardener, Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl.
My personal favorite is Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific, a largely underrated character who could be a huge fan favorite if done well. I’m also excited to see Gunn’s version of Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced, who most recently appeared in the hit HBO series, The Last of Us.
Today, Warner Bros. Pictures released five new character posters, which James Gunn described as “Frenemies & Enemies.” This batch included Lex Luthor, The Engineer, Eve Teschmacher, Metamorpho and Rick Flag, Sr.
The standout here is definitely Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, who is a really interesting character in the comics with a variety of possibilities. He looks extremely comic accurate as well in the posters. There is a part of me that wishes they inverted or darkened the colors of the “frenemies and enemies” posters to give them a distinct look from the others. But I imagine that doesn’t quite work as well in the larger marketing scheme.
Overall, it’s great to see the large number of character posters and get a better sense of the depth of characters in this film.
Superman releases July 11, 2025!
