Today, Marvel Studios released the final trailer and new poster of its upcoming film, Thunderbolts*. The trailer itself does a great job of connecting this film to the Avengers of the past and set with a stirring rendition of Queen’s “Under Pressure,” the final trailer is heavy on emotion and the theme of redemption. Typically, a new trailer and poster would be enough for hungry Marvel fans. However, along with the new trailer came the announcement that for the first time in recent memory, fans will be the first to see Thunderbolts* ahead of its May 2nd wide release and even before the formal red carpet premiere.
Fandango and IMAX® are hosting special fan screenings of Thunderbolts* on April 22, taking place in IMAX theaters across Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Austin. Complimentary tickets were available on Fandango, on a first-come, first-served basis. As you might imagine, most of the venues sold out in a flash. I personally tried to register and didn’t even have a chance.
It’s a rare move by Marvel to give fans the first crack at watching the film, which many have speculated will be full of surprises. With most films, critics, influencers and others invited to screenings are given the first look and the chance to provide a reaction. This time, fans who were quick enough to snag some of the coveted early screening tickets will be the ones who get to voice their feelings first. Presumably, that also means that spoilers will be fast and furious beginning April 22nd, over a week before the film’s release.
I hope you were one of the lucky few who were able to get early screening tickets. If not, buckle up as we head to May 2nd!
