The Copenhagen Test, starring Simu Liu and Melissa Barrera, is a hi-tech spy thriller, produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. In the new trailer, we see Liu and Barrera teaming up as multiple shadowy groups look to take them down.
The series, coming to Peacock on December 27th, looks like an old-school spy story with some modern twists. The action looks good and the tone reminds me of the 2003 spy film, The Recruit starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell.
Spy films with numerous twists and turns, where the protagonist can’t trust anyone, are always good for some fun stories. It’s great to see a project like this starring two diverse leads, which almost never happens. In addition to Wan’s production studio, Liu serves as Executive Director for the series, which means that we’re getting diverse creative involved both in front of, and behind, the camera.
