Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose Bring the Love and Pain in First ‘Love Hurts’ Trailer

Academy Award winner and America’s Sweetheart, Ke Huy Quan is back and this time he’s the lead of his own action comedy. Teaming up with fellow Academy Award winner Arian DeBose, Quan stars as a former assassin turned suburban realtor in Love Hurts from Universal Pictures.

The first trailer was released today and the film looks to be the perfect mix of humor, action and even romance. Audiences saw some of Quan’s humor, romance and even martial arts skills in his award winning performance as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once. With Love Hurts, it looks like we will get even more of Ke King Huy Quan’s talents, surrounded by an all-star cast which includes Daniel Wu, Sean Astin, Mustafa Shakir, Lio Tipton, Rhys Darby, André Eriksen and and former NFL superstar Marshawn Lynch.

The trailer is loads of fun, perfectly complemented by Celine Dion’s classic “Its All Coming Back to Me Now” playing in the background. Quan perfectly plays the role of unassuming and reluctant assassin in a hilarious contrast to Keanu Reeves’ John Wick films.

The connection to John Wick isn’t just superficial either. The film is from 87North, the production company co-founded by David Leitch, who was heavily involved in the John Wick franchise.

Check out the first trailer and teaser poster. Love Hurts releases just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 7, 2025 and is already one of my most anticipated films of the coming year.

About Love Hurts:

No matter how hard you try, you can’t break up with your past.

This Valentine’s Day, Oscar® winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at OnceLoki) rockets into his first major leading man role as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret that he is desperate to leave behind. Spoiler alert: He won’t.

From 87Northproducers of the groundbreaking action films NobodyViolent NightBullet TrainAtomic Blonde and The Fall Guy—comes a visceral, high-octane story of wrath and revenge.

Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side StoryArgylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb RaiderWarcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.

The film features a killer soundtrack and impressive and diverse cast that includes former NFL running back and Super Bowl champion Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch (Bottoms80 for Brady), Mustafa Shakir (EmancipationLuke Cage), Lio Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Lucy), Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level, Yes Man), André Eriksen (Violent NightThe Trip) and Sean Astin (The Lord of the Ringstrilogy, Perry Mason).

Guy Danella (Violent Night) is also producing. The executive producer is Ben Ormand.
