Just about two months away from the release of the highly anticipated sequel film, Moana 2, Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new poster and TV spot.
The new poster looks fantastic, with bright and bold colors that reflect the personalities of the film’s main characters. Just behind them though is a massive sea creature, which looks terrifying, but could very well turn out to be benign. Further back however, are the foreboding dark clouds and purple lightning of the new villain, which I doubt will turn out to be friendly.
All of those elements are further featured in the new TV spot, which has some great new footage and clearly sets the new mission for the heroes. I like that it seems like Moana will reunite with long lost members of her tribe.
The new TV spot also provides an all-too brief tease at one of the new original songs for the film, “We’re Back.” Fans will be reminded that Lin Manuel Miranda is not returning for this sequel, but the film will feature music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa‘i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. I’m sure as we see and hear more glimpses from this film, audiences will be eager and hopeful that the music will live up to that of the original.

Awhimai Fraser voices mysterious new character Matangi; Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa; and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Moana’s adoring and adorable little sister, Simea.
Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa‘i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Jared Bush and Miller are writing the film, which is executive produced by Jennifer Lee, Bush and Johnson.
