Marvel Entertainment Releases Sneak Peaks for ‘Marvel’s 616’ on Disney+

Comic-Con@Home is well under way and one of the most interesting panels today is A Look Inside “Marvel’s 616” on Disney+, which will feature the creatives behind the upcoming Disney+ docu-series on the cultural impact of Marvel Comics. Ahead of that panel, Marvel Entertainment released two sneak peaks for two of the series’ episodes, directed by Gillian Jacobs (Community) and Paul Scheer (The League) respectively.

The series is described as follows:

“Marvel’s 616” explores how Marvel’s rich legacy of stories, characters and creators exist within the world outside your window. Each documentary, helmed by a unique filmmaker, explores the intersections of storytelling, pop culture, and fandom within the Marvel Universe. Films in this anthology series will cover topics including Marvel’s world-spanning artists, the trailblazing women of Marvel Comics, discovering the “forgotten” characters of Marvel, and much more.

The preview for Episode 2, Higher, Further, Faster, focuses on the development of Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, and features Marvel Entertainment’s Vice-President of Character & Content, Sana Amanat and writer G. Willow Wilson. I was already looking forward to this series, but this preview definitely increased my excitement as Amanat discusses her personal background and how they pitched Kamala Khan. Representation matters indeed!

The second sneak peak is from the 4th episode, Lost and Found, directed by Paul Scheer. In the preview, Scheer interviews Black Panther writer Reginald Hudlin and they discuss his successful run with the character. The episode is supposed to be about obscure comic characters, and Scheer is seen interviewing some other writers and talking about characters like Dr. Druid. It’s not clear to me how Hudlin and Black Panther fit into that discussion but I’m always happy to listen to Hudlin talk about his series.

The Comic-Con@Home panel on Marvel’s 616 begins at 1 PM today and was already one of my SDCC Top Picks for the day so be sure to check it out!
