INTERVIEW – ‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ Star Matt Shively

The tenth episode of NBC’s hit show Lopez vs. Lopez, titled “Lopez vs Los Doyers” premieres this Friday. The series stars George Lopez and Mayan Lopez, and tells the story of the couple repairing their relationship. Also starring is Matt Shively, who plays Mayan’s partner Quinten Van Bryant. Following the last episode “Lopez vs Van Bryant”, where George sticks up for Quinten, this episode follows Quinten attempting to get closer with George by joining his fantasy baseball league.

Best known for his role as Ryan Laserbeam on the Nickelodeon television series True Jackson, VP, Shively has also appeared on two other Nickelodeon shows, Winx Club and The Troop. Shively also co-starred in the ABC television program The Real O’Neals which debuted in 2016.

I got the chance to speak with Shively to discuss his journey with the show. Shively recounts his experience auditioning for the show exactly one year ago. He spoke about doing multiple auditions over Zoom, and even having to duct tape his phone to a wall so he could do a chemistry read with George and Mayan Lopez. Shively describes this show as “too good to be true,” thanks to the collaboration from the cast and crew around him, which he is not used to.

In speaking with him it was easy to see his love for the character and this show. See my interview with him below and watch the new episode of Lopez vs. Lopez on February 3rd on NBC!
