Groot Returns in Marvel Studios ‘I Am Groot’ Season 2

Everyone’s favorite Flora Colossus is back for a second season of I Am Groot! Last year, I Am Groot premiered on Disney+ with a series of five shorts following the beloved Guardian of the Galaxy on several random but fun adventures. The series also featured cameos by a few other Guardians members, and was another joyful entry in the larger Guardians of the Galaxy universe.

What’s great about I Am Groot is that it is so well done visually that it feels like it takes place in the quiet moments between the films. Last year, I spoke with I Am Groot director Kirsten Lepore and Marvel Studios Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum regarding the series and the two shared their creative process, which included working with both Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and the voice of Groot, Vin Diesel. “He knows this character inside and outside and it shows and he just nailed it,” Lepore said about working with Diesel.

At that time, I asked Winderbaum if we could expect more of these kinds of stories, and he said that the MCU is “a universe of stories that offer something for everyone, different times, different genres, different storylines to invest in,” and said that he appreciated these kinds of stories that are self-contained.

It’s great that with season 2 of I Am Groot, both hardcore Marvel fans and casual audiences who just like Groot, will have more self-contained stories they can enjoy.

I Am Groot season 2 premieres September 6 on Disney+. Season 1 is available now and a quick and easy watch.
