Daredevil: Born Again is a series about more than just Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and his war with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Especially in the second season, the characters around those two titans were fleshed out to truly build the world they’re living in. One of the most interesting characters that enjoyed more of a spotlight was Angela Del Toro, the second White Tiger, played by Camila Rodriguez.
Camila Rodriguez Continues Angela Del Toro’s Evolution in Daredevil: Born Again
Rodriguez joined the series last season with only 3 days notice that she secured the role. That’s a sudden, if thrilling, life-changing event that the young actress had to manage, and she did so with poise. With the second season, Rodriguez continues to grow with her character, taking the fight directly to Wilson Fisk and his army.
I had the chance to speak with Rodriguez in advance of the exciting season 2 finale. She shared her process of preparing for the role and talked about her acting inspirations (including Joaquin Phoenix in Joker and Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight), working with Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll and being intimidated by Vincent D’Onofrio.
Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll Helped Camila Rodriguez Feel Supported on Set
“Charlie and Deborah have both been incredibly supportive from the beginning. I don’t know if Charlie would mind me sharing this, but when I first joined season one, he actually sent me an email congratulating me and saying he was excited to work with me. He said he wanted to make sure I felt safe, prepared and supported on set. That meant a lot,” Rodriguez said about working with Cox and Woll. “And Deborah is honestly an angel in real life. We’ve had such deep and meaningful conversations together….and she’s always encouraging and collaborative. She genuinely wanted to hear my ideas and work together.”
Why Vincent D’Onofrio Intimidated Camila Rodriguez
Rodriguez doesn’t often share scenes with the show’s other star, Vincent D’Onofrio, and thus admitted that she’s still a little intimidated by him.
“I only worked with him toward the end of filming, but I never even introduced myself because he was so intimidating. Whenever he walked into makeup or hair, I’d immediately get nervous. And he stays in character a lot, so he carries that Wilson Fisk energy and voice with him. I was like, ‘I can’t do this.’ But hopefully one day I’ll overcome that and properly introduce myself,” Rodriguez said.
Is a Young Avengers Team-Up in Camila Rodriguez’s Future?
Of course joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe means being a part of a much larger universe and potential future team-ups. I had to ask Rodriguez about any Young Avengers or others she would like to work with and her answers were fascinating.
“Hailee Steinfeld in Hawkeye was really impactful for me. I love her work and would absolutely love to work with her someday,” Rodriguez offered. “And there’s another actress I’m really interested in because I know she’s joining the Spider-Man universe, Sadie Sink. I’d love to meet her and work with her one day. I can’t confirm or deny anything, but I’m crossing my fingers.”
