Wonderfully Bizarre First Trailer for Bong Joon-ho Film ‘Mickey 17’

Superstar director Bong Joon-ho is back with a wonderfully bizarre science fiction film, Mickey 17, about a futuristic society where human printing is possible. With an all-star cast led by Robert Pattinson, with Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo, Mickey 17 looks like the must-see film of early 2025.

Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, who takes a job where he will die repeatedly and multiple prints of his body will be made. It’s the kind of deliciously wacky story that Bong clearly loves to tell and will presumably include healthy doses of class commentary and unique characterizations that have become Bong’s trademark.

It’s exciting to think about the potential of a film that combines Bong’s vision with the stellar cast. Pattinson has proven himself to be a versatile actor, and surrounding him with the likes of Ackie, Yeun, Collete and Ruffalo will give Bong a wealth of talent to work with.

I already love the tone of the film as evidenced by the trailer, with the unexpectedly hilarious Ain’t That a Kick in the Head by Dean Martin playing in the background.

Mickey 17 premieres January 31, 2025 in the U.S. and beginning January 28, 2025 internationally.
