First Look at R-rated Comedy ‘Quiz Lady’ Starring Sandra Oh and Awkwafina

First look at the upcoming comedy Quiz Lady starring Sandra Oh and Awkwafina. The R-rated film is about two sisters who go on a cross country adventure in order to pay off their mother’s gambling debt. Awkwafina and Oh star as Anne and Jenny, estranged siblings who find themselves in financial turmoil thanks to their mother and Anne’s kidnapped dog. To come up with the much needed money, the sisters decide to help make Anne a game show champion.

We’re enjoying a strong run of Asian led comedies in the last few years, including the recently released Joy Ride and the upcoming Shortcomings. Quiz Lady looks to be an excellent addition to that list, starring two hilarious Asian stars and directed by an Asian American woman, Jessica Yu. The fact that it’s also an R-rated comedy only adds to my interest, as the more adult rating should allow for Awkwafina, Oh and the rest of the cast to really push the comedic boundaries.

Quiz Lady is written by Jen D’Angelo and also stars Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor, Tony Hale, and Will Ferrell (who is also producing). Below are some first-look photos from the film, which is set to release on Hulu on November 3rd in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in other territories.
