Jason Momoa and Isabela Merced take on Big Pharma in Netflix’s upcoming film Sweet Girl. In the action packed, but surprisingly reserved new trailer released today, we see Momoa go after a pharmaceutical company after their greed prevented getting necessary medicine to his wife.
It’s a plot that feels a little too real and yet a subject that’s under-explored in media. Many may recall back in 2016 when the pharmaceutical company Mylan came under well deserved fire for the soaring cost of EpiPens. It’s always more intriguing when a movie’s plot is based on real-world experiences, and that’s why the plot of Sweet Girl grabbed me from the beginning.
Of course in this story, the evil pharmaceutical company looks like it employs some Bond-esque villains in suits and they’re going after Momoa and Isabela Merced. Momoa has great presence in everything he’s in and I like the blend of action and emotion here.
Check out the trailer below. Sweet Girl premieres August 20th!
