Face-Gripping New Trailer for ‘Alien: Romulus’

There are few franchises that are as enduring as the Alien franchise. Following the first film in 1979, the franchise boasts a total of eight feature films (including the Alien vs. Predator and Prometheus films), and there’s very little sign that the franchise, or fan interest, is slowing down. There’s something terrifyingly reliable about those disgusting face huggers, and the acid based creatures they create.

The latest film in the series, Alien: Romulus, looks to keep the horrifying times going with what is hailed as a “return to its roots.” If the official trailer that 20th Century Studios released yesterday is any indication, they’ve succeeded. The action-packed trailer is full of face huggers, humans screaming and a genuinely disturbing crunching sound that recurs throughout. I hated it and loved it.

The film is directed by Fede Alvarez, who directed horror films Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe (2016), and stars Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and relative newcomer, Aileen Wu. The father of the Alien franchise, Ridley Scott, is producing.

Alien: Romulus releases August 16, 2024 in theaters.

About Alien: Romulus:

“Alien: Romulus” takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), Aileen Wu. Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (“Don’t Breathe 2”) based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. “Alien: Romulus” is produced by Ridley Scott (“Napoleon”), who directed the original “Alien” and produced and directed the series’ entries “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant,” Michael Pruss (“Boston Strangler”), and Walter Hill (“Alien”), with Fede Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (“Charlie’s Angels”), Brent O’Connor (“Bullet Train”), and Tom Moran (“Unstoppable”) serving as executive producers.
